How to Plan A Dog Fun Match (Julie Gorveatt and Sarah Gunderson)
Learn how to organize, plan and run a dog show. Step by step planning. A great fund raising opportunity.
Teaching Healthy Horsekeeping (Pat Pehling)
An introduction to a program that was developed with Horses for Clean Water to teach environmentally friendly horsekeeping practices to 4-H youth (and parents). Workshop includes a workbook and samples of a merit badge program to encourage members to participate.
Athletics in the Sky (Audrey Bannon and Herb Cartmell)
The Skypilot Program provides a backyard activity promoting leadership skills using racing pigeons. Youth get exposure to scientific fields, genetics, animal health, physiology and discipline in a non-physical environment. Although the focus is on homing pigeons, other pigeons can be used.
Evaluating 4-H Kitchen Activities - Part 1 of 2 (Jean Swift and Davona Gwin)
Does your county need qualified judges for 4-H Kitchen Activities? Are you a leader who wants to learn more about the activities? In this workshop, we will discuss project requirements, go over the worksheet, and gain practical experience by evaluating 4-H members doing some of these activities.
Know Your Government Orientation - Part 1 of 2 (Jan Klein, with Melissa Beard and Rachel George)
KYG: The Legislative Process. Information about KYG, curriculum updates, new activities, all within the context of experiential learning- WOW! This workshop will introduce new county coordinators and update veteran coordinators to the KYG program and processes to make it the best year ever for the youth delegates.
Presentations With Pizazz (Cindy Iversen and Stephanie Somers)
Come learn how to give an outstanding presentation. We will cover how to organize and write your presentation, including "catchy" introductions, topics, and answering questions. You will learn how to make fun and unusual displays. We will also give you tips on how to be prepared on the big day.
Learn By Doing: Write On! - Part 1 of 2 (Susan Kerr and Scott VanderWey)
We SAY 4-H is "Learning by Doing," but is that really true? Come to this workshop for one-on-one coaching to create engaging educational activities for youth. Participants will gain the skills needed to develop activities that incorporate life skills, project skills and FUN. All project areas and ideas are welcome!
4-H: Effective Prevention Program (Jennifer Leach and Ramona Leber, CTED)
Packaging 4-H as an Effective Prevention Program - Review the research behind 4-H; Acknowledge 4-H as the premier prevention program it is; Learn about the 4-H Life Skills Evaluation; Learn to package 4-H to receive funding and resources from partners; and have a conversation with a state agency partner/funder.
4-H/Army Children and Youth Services (CYS) Babysitting (Darleen Munson)
An overview of the 4-H/Army Child & Youth Services Babysitting course. The goal is to have fun while teaching teens to be capable, caring, trustworthy and responsible sitters for military families, as well as families in the community.

Learning Dog Judging Skills (Pat Sechrist, with Chris and Gabriel Sechrist)
Learn from the state dog superintendent how to teach your members all about the dog judging skills
Horse Program Round Table (Pat Pehling, with Jennifer Leach and Mindy Wallace)
Come for a round table discussion with members of the Washington State 4-H Equine Committee including an update on upcoming publications and program changes, an opportunity to ask questions regarding all aspects of the Horse Program and contribute to plans for the future of the program. Volunteers, youth and parents are all welcome!
Our Evolving Cat Project (Gayle Taylor and Laurie Hampton)
All participants can share opinions/ problems with our new learning materials and help evaluate the new proposed judging forms. We have several different proposed judging sheets and we will decide which to recommend. If you could not attend the open cat project meetings this is your chance to be heard.

Verbal Graffiti: Hip Hop Poetica (Shanyanika McElroy)
This train-the-trainer workshop will preview a new 4H curriculum on the dynamic youth culture of hip hop poetry. It includes fun video/audio examples of performances, interactive activities, hands-on literary exercises and a mini open mic.
SET Adventures For 4-H Youth (Janet Edwards, with Carey Roos and Chuck Todd)
Build a bridge, experiment with chemical changes, explore food science see yourself as a scientist! This workshop will give a hands-on opportunity to sample resources to support the 4-H SET movement. Take home ideas and skills to share with 4-H members that will add a science, engineering or technology focus to your club program.

This workshop provides hands-on experience with tools crucial to creating a more organized, meaningful 4-H year. Come learn ways to help you, the club and the members plan and implement activities and goals with less stress and more fun. Includes paperwork organization tips, parental involvement and much more.
Adults: How To Braid Dog Leashes (Tia Smith)
A train the trainer session for adults to learn how to make braided show leashes to teach to their 4-H members.

Teaching Dog Showmanship Part 1 of 2 (Jo Simpson and Dawn Gregory)
An interactive/hands-on workshop, learn progressive step-by-step methods from Very Beginner to Very Advanced levels in Dog Showmanship and the "why" behind each skill. You can learn by doing or observing.
Birdwatching For 4-H Youth (Pam Watson, with Sheila Gray and Karen Von Seggern)
Join us for ideas that your club, after school program or day camp can readily use in delivering "Celebrate Urban Birds," a local birdwatching program that promotes the national SET goal as a self-determined science project.
Fair Livestock Biosecurity (Mark Heitstuman and Jerry Newman)
The outbreak of Malignant Catarrhal Fever following the Puyallup Fair was a vivid reminder that livestock projects can be exposed to potentially live threatening diseases while at the fair. This interactive workshop will discuss ways that we can minimize the risk to both animals and humans. Is your fair prepared?
Penny For Your Thoughts – Leadership Networking (Dianne Russo)
Come join this active, hands-on workshop and learn how to weave a penny purse (treasure bag, amulet pouch, etc.) and take home great ideas to enhance your Leader’s Council and/or 4-H clubs. We will be weaving and working through a suggestion circle activity to process situations from back home. Bring your club and council challenges to discuss with your colleges and take home a penny purse for your thoughts as well as new ideas to enhance your program.
Publicizing Your 4-H Story (Craig Brown)
Participants will gain an understanding of today's changing media environment and how to attract the attention of editors, reporters and photographers. Hone skills for story pitches and practice writing effective news releases. Instructor is a 4-H parent and longtime metro editor at The Columbian in Vancouver.
Why Report Your Volunteer Hours? (Carey Roos)
The Volunteer Hours Reporting System is a new database for recording the hours to Washington State Department of Labor & Industries, requiring WSU to ensure volunteers are indeed working on behalf of the University. Reporting your volunteer hours ensures your coverage for any potential injuries you might sustain as well showcase Volunteer Efforts.
Effective County 4-H Councils (Kevin Wright)
Do the same people show up for your County council meetings? Do you repeat the same discussions month after month? This interactive workshop will help you revitalize your Council, learn the role of the Council, and how to run effective meetings to better the 4-H experience for youth and volunteers.
TAG…You’re It! Inspire Teens (Kelly Fisk)
"T.A.G...You're It!" (Teen Action Group) is an interactive, engaging experience for teens, and leaders, looking to discover a positive way to connect to their community through leadership, communication and service-learning opportunities. Come discover the successes of Kitsap County’s 4-H TAG program and how to apply or adapt it.
Creative Table Settings (Jean Swift, with Davona Gwin and Nancy Mordhorst)
Learn some creative table setting ideas. Discuss the table setting activity. Have fun folding napkins in unusual ways and crafting your own napkin rings. (Fee: $1.00)

Help Your Club Members Become "Net-Smart" (Joy Faerber)
This workshop is geared to give 4-H volunteers the tools needed to increase the self-confidence and prevent victimization of 4-H members on the internet. Through the hands-on, web-based “NetSmartz” training program, participants will hear the importance of teaching internet safety; become familiar with the NetSmartz characters, web site and resources; and learn how to incorporate the on- and offline activities into group settings.
Building Strategic Partnerships (Linda J. Williams and Horizon Volunteers)
Building effective partnerships takes time, skill and practice – but if successful, the results can be much greater than if one is working alone. Participants will identify different types of community partners, learn how to minimize risk, become familiar with how to organize effective partnerships, identify partner strengths, and how to create a team that is a win-win for all partners.
Beyond The Show Ring…Showing Your Leadership (Jerry Newman and Mark Heitstuman)
Explore new 4-H educational opportunities that are at your finger tips in your home. These educational programs will allow you to experience an Online Extension Veterinarian module. You will learn programs in meats, record keeping, and life skills and other topics that you can access and use with leaders, parents and youth.
Why I Stayed In 4-H (Jan Klein, with Lindsey LaShaw and Rayla Carlson)
Washington State 4-H loses 50% of its club enrollment between grades 8 and 9. Why does this happen? How can we recruit and retain these teens so they can continue to receive the positive benefits from
4-H? A panel of teens, who chose to stay in 4-H during their high school years, may provide some answers. Learn what kept them interested and involved.

This course introduces young people to the world of Entrepreneurship. Youth discover what it is, who has done it, how famous products got started, and how to find and make business opportunities. These projects can be developed for club fundraisers! Learn about a statewide high school business plan competition.
Recruiting Latino Volunteers (Sonia Morales)
Latinos do not perceive themselves as the volunteers they are. Latinos willingly volunteer to help family, friends and community members. Family is seen as the most important social unit and its structure extends far beyond the nuclear family. Various family members are expected to help and assist each other.
