Nine Patch Pillow
Goal: What will be learned by
this project?
To sew straight, follow directions, match seams, press, select fun
color combinations, and stuff a pillow.
| Materials Needed: 18" x 18" finished size
--5/8" yard fabric A
--1/4 yard fabric B
Or use pieces large enough to cut:
--one 19-1/2" x 19-1/2" square from fabric A.
--four 7" x 7" squares from fabric A.
--five 7" x 7" squares from fabric B. |

Directions to make this project:
Lay one small square of B right side up. Lay one square of A wrong side
up on top. They are "right sides together" the way most seams are sewn. Stitch
this 5/8" from cut edge.
|

|
- Open out A right side up. Lay one more square B wrong side up on A. Stitch
this 5/8" from cut edge. This is one strip.
|

|
- Now make another strip just like the first one except use, B - A -B.
- You should have three small squares left. Make one more strip: A - B - A.
- Press the seams open on each of the three strips.
- Lay the three strips right side up and arrange them so they look like the picture. Neat!
You should have a checkerboard!
- Sew, wrong sides together, two strips. Still 5/8". Now sew on the last strip,
checking to be sure you still have a checker board.
- Press these seams open.
- To finish, go to "Basic Pillow", step 2.
