--5/8" yard fabric A
--1/4 yard fabric B
Or use pieces large enough to cut:

Directions to make this project:
  1. Lay one small square of B right side up. Lay one square of A wrong side up on top. They are "right sides together" the way most seams are sewn. Stitch this 5/8" from cut edge.

  1. Open out A right side up.  Lay one more square B wrong side up on A.  Stitch this 5/8" from cut edge.  This is one strip.

  1. Now make another strip just like the first one except use, B - A -B.

  2. You should have three small squares left.  Make one more strip:  A - B - A.

  3. Press the seams open on each of the three strips.

  4. Lay the three strips right side up and arrange them so they look like the picture. Neat! You should have a checkerboard!

  5. Sew, wrong sides together, two strips. Still 5/8". Now sew on the last strip, checking to be sure you still have a checker board.

  6. Press these seams open.

  7. To finish, go to "Basic Pillow", step 2.
